Zoom is helping workers reevaluate the purpose of an office in a post-lockdown world.

Zoom is helping workers reevaluate the purpose of an office in a post-lockdown world. Believe it or not, the company that helped “cripple the office” during the pandemic actually has an office and, like the majority of workers today, they’re still working to figure out the future of the office space as we know it. Right now, hybrid work is the most common setup for full-time employees who are able to work from home. When Zoom allowed their employees to WFH forever earlier this year, they found “only 1% are regular office presences, with 75% living remotely and the rest identifying themselves as hybrid workers.” Now, the company is grappling with the meaning of an office and they’ve realized a key point that young workers have been saying for quite some time: “the office does not exist to get work done.” YPulse’s Employment and Career Goals report data shows that in five years from now, roughly a third of Gen Z and Millennials see themselves working in an office only 1-2 days a week.
