A quarter of Gen Z employees feel guilty for taking a lunch break at work.

Aug 09 2022

A quarter of Gen Z employees feel guilty for taking a lunch break at work. For Gen Z workers, hesitancy to take lunch is the most prevalent because many report that their workload exceeds their hours. According to business catering company ezCater, 21% of Gen Z employees say “they don’t have enough time in their day to get their work done if they take a break…[19%] say they have too many meetings during the lunch hour, and 27% say they avoid breaks altogether to finish the workday as quickly as possible.” Again in this case, eliminating toxic hustle culture will allow young employees to work smarter and not harder, foster relationships with their coworkers, and allow for more collaboration. Yet, “lunchflation” is affecting young workers too, with 67% of Gen Z spending at least $11 when ordering lunch about three to four times a week. YPulse research shows free lunches/food is the number one employee benefit that would make Gen Z more likely to take a job.
