Gen Z and Millennials are feeling “Sunday Scaries” the most. According to a new study by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, while pre-monday anxiety may appear normal, the “Sunday Scaries” are a real phenomenon—and young people are experiencing it in debilitating ways. Common symptoms include: “a sense of dread or impending doom, headache, upset stomach, sweating, difficulty breathing, racing heartbeat, trouble sleeping, and depression. The AASM survey found that a third of Gen Z and Millennials have trouble sleeping particularly on Sunday nights and that 73% of Americans are staying awake from worrying about work. It doesn’t help that toxic hustle culture and “always on” mindsets because of smart devices are also keeping young people awake at night. YPulse’s recent What is Wellness? trend report data shows 55% of Gen Z and Millennials track their sleep and 38% say sleeping a healthy amount of time is part of their wellness routine. (Sleepopolis)
