#BookTok, one of TikTok’s largest subcultures, is launching an official book club. Currently at 64.5 billion views, #BookTok is a hashtag TikTokers use for content celebrating their love of literature, and now the app has finally released an official club where readers can follow along with a designated book each month. This month, the club is kicking it off with Jane Austen’s Persuasion, just in time for the classic novel’s new Netflix adaptation. Gen Z and Millennials’ favorite app is well aware the subculture’s mass popularity has boosted bookstore sales, which is why they created a special hub where users can access all of the official book club info, like the book of the month and the Laureates (#BookTok creators @li.reading, @edenreidreads, @jackbenedwards, @cocosarel, and author @Bmercer). At the end of each month, the group will host a TikTok Live discussion where users can pop in and share their thoughts. YPulse research shows that the majority (69%) of young consumers feel the communities they are a part of are a big part of their identity and 35% are finding community on social media platforms.
