Scotland is the latest nation to try out the four-day workweek.

Scotland is the latest nation to try out the four-day workweek. Following the lead of Iceland and Spain, Scotland’s ruling party is keeping a campaign promise to reduce worker hours by 20% while keeping salaries the same. A recent poll showed that 80% of people in Scotland support the initiative, and studies in Iceland and Spain have found that the reduced workweek has been a huge success, leading to less burnout and an overall improvement to work-life balance. While Millennial burnout was a problem before the pandemic, COVID has only worsened the problem. Now, young workers are demanding better work-life balance as things return to normal. In the U.K., 71% of workers consider flexible working important to their job satisfaction, and a recent government proposal aims to give them the right to request unconventional hours from their employers from the get-go.
