Speaking of BTS, sales for back to school supplies are already on track to beat out 2020. YPulse reported that a third of Millennial parents planned to spend more on back to school shopping this year compared to last, and their spending plans have created a surge for the season. NPD predicts that spending on supplies overall will be up 12% from 2020, and back up to 2019 levels, and July-August sales for BTS items were up 20% from the year before. Kids being told they shouldn’t share supplies could be part of the reason for the increase: teachers report that they expect 73% of kids to bring their own crayons this year, compared to 49% in years past.
