Recent college grads say their mental health is being significantly impacted by the pandemic.

Aug 23 2021

Recent college grads say their mental health is being significantly impacted by the pandemic. Transitioning out of college can be hard to cope with as is, and for 2020 and 2021 college grads, the effects of the pandemic are having an even worse impact on their mental health as they navigate the remote workforce and struggle to build community IRL. YPulse’s State of Mind trend research found 54% of Gen Z and 51% of Millennials say their mental health has been negatively impacted by the pandemic. According to licensed psychotherapist Dr. Akua K. Boateng, “A lot of globalized uncertainty kind of exacerbates all those prenatural transitional experiences that you have.” A  student who graduated from Rutgers University in 2020 notes that while young people are often defined by their resiliency, mental health awareness is needed in order to create solutions: “We’ve normalized this, the resiliency that young people that are growing up today have to have, which is why you see the rates of depression and anxiety increasing year by year…we need to stand together and fight for radical change in education, mental health, and work environments.” (Teen Vogue)
