TikTok is (no surprise here) redefining how young people discover music. After owning the songs of last summer, new studies from MRC Data and Flamingo Group reveal just how influential the platform is when it comes to music discovery: 75% of TikTok visitors say they discover artists there, 63% say it’s a source for finding music they’ve never heard of, and 72% associate specific songs with the app. Platforms including Spotify, Pandora, and SiriusXM have launched playlists/channels to aid in young listeners’ TikTok music discovery, and 67% of TikTokers say they are more likely to seek out songs on music-streaming services. The opportunity for brands to tap into popular music on the platform is big, with 68% of respondents also noting they better recall a brand’s video that uses songs they favor. YPulse’s data shows that 64% of Gen Z and 39% of Millennials say they have discovered new music on TikTok. (Variety)
