From progressive tote bags to fewer logos, the fashion on HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot reflects Gen Z’s “intersectional worldview.”

From progressive tote bags to fewer logos, the fashion on HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot reflects Gen Z’s “intersectional worldview.” When the original Gossip Girl series ended in 2012, Millennials were obsessed with the outfits in all of their high fashion glory. But in 2021, the reboot has received a “Gen Z update” and while it takes place in the same elite Upper East Side neighborhood (and still includes Kristen Bell’s iconic narration), the characters are more diverse and sexually fluid, and their attire consists of “maximalist sneakers, vintage purses, and tote bags that promote their values.” Logomania is no longer a necessity, Tory Burch flats have been replaced with Balenciaga sneakers, and the clothes are more gender fluid.
