Discord and Slack are the latest to plan new “Clubhouse-like” audio features. Plenty of social networks are scrambling to build Clubhouse clone features, and Discord, which already has voice chat integrated into it, is launching new channels specifically for audio events. With “Stage Channels,” users can curate a speaker experience and use moderator tools to control who gets the mic and when. The added function will make it easier for users to run a server to host formalized conversations without having to mess around with granular user permissions. Meanwhile, Slack, which already allows users to make audio calls to one another, just announced that they are beta-testing a voice message function and making plans to offer “on-the-fly video/voice rooms that don’t require pre-scheduling or an actual call.” (TechCrunch, Gizmodo)
