With hip-hop dominating the music market, YouTube is making it easier for advertisers to reach fans. Hip-hop has seen a year of “unparalleled growth,” and of the top three genres on YouTube, hip-hop music “was both the fastest growing and most viewed genre.” Now YouTube is expanding their YouTube Select advertising tools to include more hip-hop artists, channels, and creators for ad placement, which would open up “huge doors” for artists and labels to monetize content. Brands like Levi’s and BET have already been tapping into the hip-hop music lineups for their campaign ads. Hip-hop musicians accounted for all ten of YouTube’s most viewed artists with YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Lil Baby, Juice WRLD, and Rod Wave taking the top spots. YPulse’s most recent music report found that hip-hop/rap is the top genre of music that 13-39-year-olds enjoy listening to. (Billboard)
