| Disney is expected to surpass Netflix as “the world’s biggest streaming firm” by 2024. Despite launching in late 2019, Disney+ has already surpassed 100 million subscribers globally. Because of its “explosive growth” and the subscriber numbers from the company’s ESPN+ platform and Hulu, Netflix is projected to “lose its crown as the world’s biggest streaming provider within three years.” At the end of last year, Disney announced that they were tripling their target subscribers to 260 million by 2024 and doubled their content budget to $15 billion. That being said, currently YPulse’s media consumption report shows that 73% of 13-39-year-olds use Netflix to stream content weekly, while 34% use Disney+. (The Guardian) |
