Streaming services are launching more channels to take decision making out of on-demand viewing. YPulse predicted that streaming overload solutions will be a major trend this year as viewers face an ever-growing amount of content. Now popular streaming services are “building up their offerings of free, ad-supported channels that look a lot like traditional cable channels” with constant programming airing around specific genres like drama, comedy, game shows, or dedicated solely to a single show. Peacock offers channels like the SNL Vault full of comedy sketches, Amazon’s IMDb TV has a Crime 360 channel focused on true crime, and Discovery+ released a collection of channels dedicated to shows like 90 Day Fiancé and Fixer Upper. Meanwhile, Netflix is experimenting with their “channel-esque” Direct feature in France. (WSJ)
