Takeout meal subscriptions have been helping restaurants survive during an especially “harsh winter.” As lockdowns continue to impact the business of local and major restaurants across the country, many have been relying on meal subscriptions to main stability—and luckily, young city dwellers have been getting into it. According to a PropertyNest survey, 55% of New Yorkers say they would be interested in signing up for a restaurant subscription. Pre-pandemic, some major chains were already offering similar services: Olive Garden had a Never Ending Pasta Pass promotion, and Panera sold an “endless coffee subscription.” Meanwhile, local establishments like Portland-based Gado Gado have created “one-off takeout meals” and are experimenting with “piloting their own subscription models.”(Eater)
