The future of the wine industry remains uncertain as Millennials and the pandemic continue to “cloud outlook.” According to a report from the Silicon Valley Bank, it’s difficult to know whether total wine sales were up or down in 2020, but regardless, growth in the industry depends on “people under 40.” And unfortunately, “Millennials aren’t drinking wine as much as expected.” Demand for low or no-alcohol alternatives could create problems for wine makers, who haven’t yet dramatically changed their messaging to reach young, health-conscious drinkers. But startups like FitVine are beginning to cater to this customer: their products have a third of the sugar as traditional wine, and they’re reportedly “the top-growing wine brand.” (Food Dive)
