The future of esports is shorter, celeb-filled, and more gender inclusive. According to Electronic Arts, while their audience for the last 20 years has been “males, hardcore video game players,” they’ve been finding ways to reach an “untapped audience.” With their new competition show The Sims Spark’d, EA used a contemporary approach to topics like same-sex marriage and gender customization, and made a “shorter-length” show that would be more appealing to reality show-obsessed Gen Z and Millennials. With the series, their strategy was to “simply entertain,” rather than drive interest back to the video game. (Fast Company)
