Millennials are buying “cheap old houses” on Instagram. YPulse’s recent No Place Like Home trend report found that lower housing costs is the top reason Millennials want to move out of the city, and many first-time homebuyers have flocked to the Instagram account @cheapoldhouses to purchase homes. The account features “historic homes” in smaller towns that cost no more than $100,000 to buy, which young people have found “enticing” during the pandemic. According to its founder, their follower count has “doubled twice” its rate per week. At the beginning of the pandemic, they had 750,000 followers and have grown to one million. Users interested in buying a home from an Instagram post will be directed to visit the official Cheap Old Houses site, an “offshoot” of CIRCA, to find the appropriate listing. (Business Insider)
