Young activists are finding creative ways to support Black Lives Matters online and protest digitally. YPulse found that 55% of 16-34-year-olds have participated in #BlackLivesMatter protests or awareness—and many are doing so online. At the end of May, the hashtag had been shared more than 8 million times on Twitter, up from 146,000 shares back in December 2014. Now, with the availability of more social platforms, thousands of young activists who can’t take to the streets have flocked to Zoom, Instagram, and Facebook Live to digitally protest—and apps like TikTok and Tinder were recently in “hot water” after being accused of banning the use of the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag on their videos and bios. TikTok blamed “technical difficulties,” and Tinder has said it will unban those members and fundraise for the campaign. (The Washington Post)
