As brands are being called on to offer more than just “feel-good messages” amid protests, young celebrities are handing their accounts over to activists. Brand responses to #BlackLivesMatter are receiving both praise and ire, but many young consumers are urging for companies to be activists who are “fiery, passionate advocates campaigning for social action.” One way influencers are stepping up to show active support: Selena Gomez, Shawn Mendes, and other celebrities have been handing over their Instagram accounts to Black activists and organizations to educate their followers and amplify Black voices.
