TikToker users are turning dance moves and trends into “political statements.” The app is no stranger to bringing serious issues to light and with its (mostly) Gen Z user base, many creators have pivoted to more political-oriented content. TikTokers who usually pose playful routines have begun urging followers to march for racial justice after George Floyd was killed, and some who still post lighthearted dances and lip syncs have begun setting them to political speeches. On the platform, the hashtag #blacklivematters has accrued more than 8 billion views, while #blackvoices, and #blackmusic have over a billion combined. (NPR, TNW)
