In a move to merge pro sports and esports, the NFL is teaming up with Twitch and Epic Games for a Super Bowl Fortnite event. Ahead of the actual Super Bowl, the NFL and the live streaming service will be hosting a series of competitions, including the title for “Best Fortnite Player in the League” and the Twitch Rivals Streamer Bowl, where Twitch streamers will team up with NFL players to compete in a variety of games. As esports enthusiasts are starting to pivot away from traditional sports viewing (YPulse research shows that 52% of 13-37-year-old males are avid followers of esports) more sports organizations are hoping partnerships like this will retain their fan base.
