Chinese Millennials are prioritizing freedom over stability when it comes to jobs. According to an economics professor at Xiamen University, China’s Millennials “value freedom and leisure, and hate being restricted by superiors in traditional jobs,” as evidenced by a 2016 poll where 48% of college students said they didn’t want to be a part of the traditional labor market. DouMi, a startup that pairs part-time gigs (like handing out pamphlets) with job seekers, has seen their monthly active users double to 20 million in just six months, and reports that 90% of their users are students 35-years-old and younger.
