Eight in ten Millennials want to buy a home someday—but nearly three-quarters can’t afford it. Why? A study by Apartment List claims that 70% have saved less than $1,000 for a down payment, and less than one third of “the older crowd” of 25-34-year-olds could afford a down payment in three years’ time. Ypulse data shows 78% of 18-34-year-olds have some savings, but averaging at under $11,000, they’re likely not ready to make a hefty house payment anytime soon.
