College majors are getting more and more specialized—and it might not be good for young workers. LinkedIn and the World Economic Forum looked at the self-reported majors of “hundreds of millions of LinkedIn members across the world” and found more general majors (chemistry, history, economics, etc.) were more common among older members, while niche degrees (info technology, computer engineering, etc.) were more typical for younger users. But having a “wide range of talents” is important as technology changes industries, and a good ‘ol liberal arts degree might be more beneficial than “labor-market-oriented degrees.” (Quartz)
