Threads is becoming the “spiritual successor” to Black Twitter. ICYMI, Twitter underwent a noticeable vibe shift after Elon Musk bought the platform in 2022 and rebranded it as X in 2023. So, many users—especially young Black users—started looking for a new digital home. Enter Threads. Today, the platform is keeping alive many of the conversations that made Black Twitter a cultural force, from discussions about the ageism Black women face to the latest TV commentary. (They’re already talking about the season finale of Lanterns on there!) Not to mention, some of the biggest cultural voices, like Roxane Gay, Brittany Packnett Cunningham, and Nikole Hannah-Jones, have migrated to the platform. But that doesn’t mean Threads is just Black Twitter 2.0. Instead, Threads is carving out its own identity, while carrying forward Black Twitter’s legacy of making space for voices that deserve to be heard. (Wired)
