Gen Z is being blamed for pubs shuttering. (Again.) According to the British Beer and Pub Association, 161 pubs closed across England, Wales, and Scotland between January and March this year alone. And while rising costs and taxes have a lot to do with pubs shuttering, some say Gen Z’s shifting social habits because of the economic pressures they are facing do, too. Instead of spending money on nights out drinking with friends, young people are instead focusing their time and energy on hobbies that don’t revolve around alcohol, like running clubs, padel matches, and daytime activities like coffee raves.
