Gen Z demand is forcing brands to include “dark mode” features on their apps. According to web design agency Digital Silk, brands that focus on Gen Z in the fashion, fintech, and gaming sectors are increasingly requesting dark mode features and “sleek, high-contrast designs” for their apps. Whether a preference for dark mode is just a Gen Z quirk or something that provides young people with real comfort is yet to be determined, as widespread as it is. But young people might be onto something with this design demand beyond the vibe: dark mode is easier on the eyes and extends battery life on some devices. And the dark mode aesthetic is making its way into real life, too, with modern offices swapping harsh, overhead fluorescent lighting for softer, dimmer environments. (According to TikTok, Gen Z hates “the big light.”). (BGR)
