Inflation is causing some Gen Z to change their beauty spending habits.

Jun 23 2026

Inflation is causing some Gen Z to change their beauty spending habits. In what Bustle dubbed “The Gen Z Glow Down,” some young people are swapping expensive manicures for reusable press-on nails, cancelling their hair, wax, and facial appointments, and more to save on non-necessities. Some young women are also taking to social media to get candid about their cost-saving insights. Mikaela Wilson, a 26-year-old content creator from Los Angeles, tells her followers that she gets a haircut once a year and that she won’t buy a full-size perfume until she finishes a full tester. YPulse data shows that when it comes to the little splurges Gen Z won’t give up even with a tight budget, cosmetics and salon services are lower on the list for young adults than fast food and clothes.
