British Gen Z are using their group chats and TikTok to help them save money.

Mar 18 2026

British Gen Z are using their group chats and TikTok to help them save money. According to a new Nationwide survey, nearly half of young Brits (43%) now say they trust financial tips from their group chats more than traditional finance websites, with 71% of 18-24-year-olds regularly using messaging apps and online groups to hunt for money-saving hacks. From snagging discount codes (36%) to tracking supermarket price drops (30%) and finding restaurant deals (22%), young consumers’ chats can become cash-saving goldmines. Social media is also playing a big role, of course, with almost half (48%) of young Brits seeking practical money advice on TikTok. And these online groups have a real impact: 82% of respondents say their money habits have been directly influenced by what they learn there. YPulse has said before that many young Europeans are worried about not reaching their financial goals, so their behavior is likely an attempt at making their goals a reality. (The Independent)
