More than half of teens think other students are cheating with AI tools. New Pew Research data of 13-17-year-olds shows about half are using AI for school, whether that’s help starting research or fine-tuning their writing. (YPulse data shows it’s even more than that, with 78% of middle / high school students using chatbots just for homework help.) But Pew’s data shows the majority (six in 10) think their peers are using it somewhat or extremely / very often to cheat. “Cheating” wasn’t defined for the students asked but could mean anything from AI-generated text that submission sites would identify to simply using it for help getting answers. But teens do seem to know what extent of AI use is likely to be deemed cheating by teachers and pay mind to it. (Washington Post)
