New, small soccer leagues are getting the investments to get Gen Z’s attention. Spain’s Kings League and Germany’s Baller League have gained attention in Western Europe for expanding on the way brands interact with young Europeans’ favorite sport. Both are now moving into the U.S. with millions behind them. The difference in these games comes from smaller teams, “gamified rules,” having influencers as players (which new YPulse data shows nearly half of Gen Z watches or is interested in), and primarily, focusing on streaming for viewer engagement. We know Gen Z and Millennial sports fans are already following sports clips and content creators on socials and watching matches on streaming platforms. These leagues are starting off on the sources they’re already watching most, often streaming games on Twitch and YouTube for free, giving them the chance to be discovered organically as any creator channel would be.
