German Gen Z may not be the climate warriors many think they are.Β The ADAC Foundation survey of 16-27-year-olds found only 12% consider environmental friendliness when making life decisions (lower than the general population’s 15%), while 52% prioritize speed, 48% reliability, and 44% affordability. And despite assumptions that young people are rejecting cars, 58% already have driver’s licenses with another 27% planning to get one. They are also more likely to fly for vacation at a record-breaking 37%β€”the highest across all age groups. Researchers call it “de-ideologization”: moral arguments about saving the planet simply don’t work on a generation making decisions based on “cold, hard self-interest” about what’s fast, cheap, and convenient.
