Are young men actually swinging away from conservative politicians?

Nov 13 2025

Are young men actually swinging away from conservative politicians? Headlines have circulated non-stop about how conservative young men are, but in the latest Democrat wins in Virgina, New Jersey, and New York City, men under-30-years-old supported these candidates by large margins. NYC’s new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, won Gen Z males’ vote by a +40pt margin, and in California, where Governor Gavin Newsom ran a staunchly anti-Trump campaign, young men voted “yes” to his Prop 50 by a +52pt margin. But they’re not definitively shifting left; what this actually reveals is that this demographic are swing voters following specific problems and personability. Plus, the total amount of voters making up these margins is far less than those who voted in the presidential vote last year. Young men’s main concerns remain about the economy and the job market, but their belief that Trump will improve those issues has sharply declined. (Puck)
