Duolingo is turning the owl into an anime hero. The app is launching The Final Test, a five-part anime starring its mascot Duo. Each 60-second episode expands Duo’s lore (which fans have followed for years) as he and the app’s other characters battle to “keep the streak alive.” The all-Japanese series, dropping on YouTube, promotes Duolingo’s updated Japanese courses specifically while tapping anime’s global Gen Z fanbase—the gen makes up the highest percentage of anime fans. It follows a growing trend of brands using story-driven content to connect with Gen Z where they already are and making ads more like a part of their regular content viewing. (Variety)
