This summer, some teens and tweens will be going to summer camp with their favorite online stars. Camp 17 is a six-day camp created by Mills Entertainment and CAA that will feature YouTube sensations Bethany Mota and Tyler Oakley—who have 17.7 million subscribers between them. In the new age of fame, barriers between fans and the famous have been broken down—and there has been an “overwhelming consumer demand” for live events with online talent. Going offline will also be a welcome challenge to the digitally addicted campers: a recent survey found 89% 12-24-year-olds “feel they need a daily digital detox,” and more than half take daily breaks from their tech to spend time with family and friends.
