Tea Dating Advice is a women-only app that lets users anonymously review the men they’re dating. Though it launched in 2023, nearly 1M women have joined in the last week, skyrocketing the app to #1 in the Lifestyle category on the U.S. App Store. Often compared to the “Are We Dating the Same Guy?” Facebook groups, the app gives women a way to to crowdsource opinions from exes and spot red flags in the men they’re dating, from ghosting to more serious abuse. While some see it as a vital tool for safety in a dating landscape where trust is eroding—YPulse data shows 67% of 18-39-year-olds feel dating apps aren’t what they used to be—others say it opens the door for defamation if a user exaggerates or outright lies about their experience. Either way, Tea’s current virality makes one thing clear: young people view modern dating as deeply fractured, and women are seeking new ways to protect themselves online. (Dazed)
