Gen Z in Europe still support the EU and democracy, but many want urgent reform. According to the Junges Europa 2025 study, most young people support EU membership in theory—especially in places like Germany and Britain—but over half feel the EU is poorly run and focused on the wrong things. Their top concerns include the cost of living, defense, economic growth, and climate change. Many are calling for specific reforms like stronger unity between member states, better conditions for business growth, and a more globally influential EU that stands up for its values and priorities on the world stage. While they generally prefer democracy, there’s growing unease: 21% say they’d accept an authoritarian government if it got results.
