Should celebrities popular with teens only promote healthy products?

Jun 07 2016

Should celebrities popular with teens only promote healthy products? A new study suggests that pop stars could be contributing to young consumers’ unhealthy eating habits by endorsing fatty foods: 20 of the most-popular musicians with teens have done ads or other promotions for high-calorie food or beverage brands. Between 2000-2014, there were over 312 million YouTube views for commercials featuring a celebrity promoting products like fast-foods and sodas. Not too surprisingly, the research found no celebrities appeared in ads for fruits, vegetables, or whole grains in that time frame. (AP, CBC)
