Macy’s is struggling to attract experience-seeking young consumers. In an era when “Cheesecake Factory does as much business as Sears used to do,” many malls are replacing department store “anchors” with things like restaurants and laser tag. Macy’s is trying to keep up by adding experience-based sections like wellness hubs, and adding restaurants to stores. However, some experts believe their solution is only “a piece of the pie,” and department stores need a complete remodel of their format to cater to the generation. (Business Insider)
