Does the foodie generation understand food safety? A recent HuffPost/YouGov poll says they still think they do, but they really don’t. When people under 30 were asked if they understood various date labels on food products, almost half of respondents say they do “very well.” The problem is young people are the worst offenders when it comes to throwing away foods that have passed the label dates—41% say they do, compared to 17% of those over 65-years-old. Label dates refer to quality, not safety, but respondents under 35 were less likely than those over 65-years-old to know exactly what they mean. (Huffington Post)
