VR is expected to be a $38 billion industry—but not until 2026. A Greenlight Insights and Road to VR industry forecast report suggests a slow start for VR, with less than $1 million of revenue over the next year, but predicts significant growth after 2018. At the moment, sales of hardware is forecasted to take up the “lion’s share of industry revenue,” and by 2021 standalone headsets with built-in computing could become a major category. Enterprise experiences, like workforce training, are also expected to surpass consumer-related VR experiences by 2020, and generate almost a third of total industry revenue by 2026. (Fast Company)
