Noplace, a modern twist on Myspace, is No. 1 in the app store this week. The new social app gained popularity even before its official launch—YPulse told you it had a waiting list of over 380K back in April, thanks to unique profile customization features. Despite Gen Z not having experienced Myspace’s peak, there’s a nostalgic appeal to this type of social network. Noplace aims to provide a platform where users can follow friends and discover others with shared interests through text-based updates, without photos and videos (for now). With new platforms vying constantly for attention, it’s hard for any to make a real splash with Gen Z—but BeReal and Threads both had their moment at No. 1 which solidified them in the social conversation for a while.
