Millennials have become the dominant generation in Canada. Baby boomers had been the largest gen for 65 years, but Millennials overtook them on July 1, 2023. The federal statistics agency noted that “From the mid-1960s to the early 1970s, baby boomers accounted for around 40 per cent of the population,” a level which Millennials are not expected to reach. Gen Z is a growing population too, already having outpaced Gen X, and are predicted to surpass Millennials. Statistics Canada also reports that while aging is contributing to a decline in the baby boomer population, the rise of Millennials is primarily due to an influx of permanent and temporary immigrants.
