In Spain, the majority of babies are now born to unmarried couples. A recent study by the Spanish government found that more babies in the country are born to legally single mothers than married ones, for the first time on record. This indicates a cultural shift in a traditionally Catholic country toward a more secular view of marriage and family. The figures also reveal that Spanish women are having children later in life than in the past and are more likely to have only one child.
