Gen Z might be to thank for reviving the popularity of jazz music.

Jan 11 2024

Gen Z might be to thank for reviving the popularity of jazz music. The reasons behind the current jazz revival among this generation are a bit unclear. However, jazz has historically been associated with rebellion, meaning it can signal time of cultural changes—which we know Gen Z are constantly spearheading. Children as young as 10-years-old have consistently gravitated towards learning and playing jazz music, due to the evolving nature of Gen Z artists creating music of the genre. Viral sensation Laufey is a great example of the rise in jazz popularity as her music has truly become beloved among Gen Z, with people comparing her to a modern-day Ella Fitzgerald. YPulse data shows that Gen Z is moving past the “genre” labels and not limiting themselves to one musical identity as artists of their generation break down the barriers between them. (Axios)
