Thanks to TikTok, concert-going has completely evolved. From Taylor Swift’s Eras tour to Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour, the social media platform has made concerts into not just an event to watch a favorite artist perform, but a cultural experience, and it’s more interactive than ever. Now, fans memorize chants or pauses at certain points of performances, trade friendship bracelets, and curate carefully planned looks for shows. One fan says “…in the last 10 to 12 years I’ve seen a shift from people just wearing jeans and a band T-shirt to concerts to curating looks wholly designed to be pictured on social media.” And even if fans don’t have the chance to see their idols in person, they can still feel included through TikTok livestreams or recapped video clips on their FYP. YPulse research shows that it’s not uncommon for young people to turn to livestreams / virtual concerts when they can’t attend in person. (Vox)
