Gen Z and Millennials are making the mocktail a mainstream thing. YPulse has previously said Gen Z and Millennials are slowly turning away from drinking and a majority agree that they “don’t need alcohol to have a good time.” Now, recent research from NielsenIQ further confirms these sentiments, with the popularity of the mocktail rapidly increasing over the past five years—alongside Gen Z and young Millennials reaching drinking age. And brands are taking advantage of this trend, making sophisticated concoctions that give consumers the pleasure of having a drink without the alcohol, playing into young consumers’ sober-curious lifestyles. One Colorado bartender says, “Back in the day, a nonalcoholic, or a mocktail, was a bunch of juices thrown together…With these brands, it’s really allowed us to get creative.” (Axios)
