Sports media as we know it is changing thanks to Gen Z. Before the developments of modern technology, sports were traditionally consumed either in person or on television. Now, Gen Z is looking to view all types of sports media—including highlight clips, real-time player stats, and augmented reality overlays on games. And a study done in the U.S. and U.K. by Vizrt found that only 58% of the gen enjoys live sports, and many would rather watch mobile clips. Furthermore, Gen Z sports fans care deeply about diversity and inclusivity, like calling for boycotts at the World Cup in Qatar this year fighting for gender equality in sports. YPulse’s Sports and Athletics report shows that 70% of 13-39-year-olds agree that they don’t need to watch sports games live to keep up with what happens.
