Google searches reveal YPulse’s Halloween predictions came true! Google’s Frightgeist report isn’t specific to Gen Z, but our digging on Gen Z socials from last month lines right up with some of the top searches happening this spooky season. Horror, of course, is dominating. Searches for “Analog horror” and “Uncanny valley movies” in particular have shot up in recent years. And it’s no wonder when the top-searched movies are Buddy (#1), a horror about kids in the ‘90s stuck in a Barney-like TV show with a sinister twist, and Other Mommy (#2), the poster for which features Jessica Chastain with a just-off-from-human smile. Costume-wise, it comes as no surprise to us at all that Nikki from Obsession is at #3, Agamemnon from The Odyssey at #4, and Captain Clark from Backrooms at #11 since we said movie costumes would dominate. We also called the couple costumes: Nikki and Bear from Obsession (#3) and JLo and Maverick from Off Campus (#4). And though we didn’t specifically call squishies as trending costumes—because we’re not exactly sure how that even works—we did tell you to expect some pop culture meme costumes.
