There’s a new teen magazine on the block. WYouth (pronounced “double youth”) is W Magazine’s new biannual print, which will also appear in a dedicated section on their website. Its first issue—out September 15—features all the teen-mag staples, from horoscopes and a quiz about toxic BFFs to interviews with Gen Z stars like Clairo, fashion spreads, and even some news coverage. The cover has the nostalgic vibe too: it’s a photo Hailey and Justin Bieber took themselves with a film camera (mid-make out, of course). While WYouth’s launch may feel perfectly timed as Gen Z rediscovers traditional media, it’s entering a challenging market. Seventeen ended print issues in 2018; Tiger Beat is gone; Teen Vogue moved into Vogue.com last year. But editor-in-chief Ava Nirui argues that Gen Z’s digital fatigue may actually be providing an opening; something as tangible and intentionally offline (hello, analog!) as print media might just be the break they’re looking for from their scroll.
